The incredible biodiversity of Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument is perhaps rivaled by the wide range of recreational and interpretive opportunities there. There’s hiking on the International Appalachian Trail, world-class paddling on three rivers, mountain biking, birdwatching for over 150 avian species, walks to unique ecological and geological wonders, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling in the parcels east of the East Branch, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, unmatched views of Katahdin, and stargazing beneath the darkest skies East of the Mississippi River. During your trip, you’ll be following in the footsteps of the First Peoples, Henry David Thoreau, Teddy Roosevelt, Frederic Edwin Church, Elizabeth Oakes Smith, and many more.

In these early days of Katahdin Woods and Waters, while the park’s management plan is still being decided, there’s no substitute for having a good one-on-one conversation about a trip you’d like to take. Take a look through the following experiences, mark which ones you are interested in, and give us a call at (207) 808 – 0020 or shoot us an email at info@friendsofkww.org. We’re always happy to help plan your next adventure into the Monument.

You’ll see that many of these trips recommend a Map Adventures Map and Loop Road Map. Sign up as a new member with Friends of Katahdin Woods and Waters, and you’ll receive the Loop Road Interpretive Map and the Map Adventures Map of Katahdin Woods and Waters as part of your welcome package.
