Michelle
Environmental Educator
Michelle is the part-time Environmental Educator for Friends of Katahdin Woods & Waters. A recent homecomer, she spent significant childhood time wandering, picking berries, fishing, and poking things with sticks in Patten, Baxter State Park, and on Millinocket Lake. Since her early memories involve conversations about public/private access and outdoor heritage, she’s committed to ensuring that young people have lots of access (and connection) to the woods and pride in their communities. Throughout both her undergraduate education at the University of Maine and master’s program at the University of North Texas, she’s always been enthusiastic about how humans view their place in the natural world and engage in inquiry outside of traditional classroom environments. Michelle holds Registered Maine Rec Guide, Wilderness First Aid, and RYT200 hour yoga certifications. In the past she’s started a successful Outdoor Club for public school students, monitored ecologically significant alpine communities, grown greenhouse crops, and run a thriving school library. When she’s not playing outdoors with family and friends or educating, Michelle loves making, fixing, growing, reading, and learning every new skill that she can.
