Friends to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of National Monument
Patten, ME – Friends of Katahdin Woods & Waters, the nonprofit philanthropic partner to Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, is hosting the 10th annual Woods & Waters Day weekend August 14 and 15, 2026, culminating in a celebration at New England Outdoor Center from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 15th. Tickets are $50 at friendsofkww.org/woodsandwatersday and include a seasonal dinner, dessert, live music, dancing, a silent auction, and raffle.
Woods & Waters Day commemorates the August 2016 designation of Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, a wild and scenic 87,500 acre landscape managed by the National Park Service. A decade later, the monument has seen the completion of multiple significant projects, welcomed visitors from throughout the country, and embarked on important tribal collaborations with the Wabanaki Nations.
In addition to the celebration at NEOC, Friends will host a ribbon cutting marking the completion of renovations at the Loop Road Overlook on Friday, August 14th at 12 p.m. Friends will also host an economic development discussion and walking tour of Millinocket on Friday, August 14th at 4 p.m., and a cultural demonstration by Passamaquoddy-Penobscot artist Natalie (Kasq) Dana Lolar at Tekαkαpimək Contact Station from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 15th.
