For NPS, a cultural resource inventory is a systematic evaluation, documentation, and database tracking process for historical, architectural, and archeological assets. It identifies archeological sites, cultural landscapes, and historic structures to guide park planning, preservation, and legal compliance. Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument is noted for its archeological record of human activity dating back 11,000 years. NPS partners with Tribal Historic Preservation Officers on this important work.
