A National Park Service (NPS) General Management Plan (GMP) is a long-term, comprehensive blueprint that guides the preservation, use, and overall management of a national park unit. Required by law for every park, it establishes a clear vision and sets goals for the next 15 to 20 years. Friends is pleased to provide funding for the GMP at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. The Monument does not yet have a comprehensive management plan. Building on earlier planning efforts, including the Monument’s Foundation Document and the previous draft Management Framework effort, NPS now seeks public perspectives to inform draft management vision, desired conditions and zoning concepts that will guide the future of this nationally significant landscape.
