Tekαkαpimək Contact Station represents Friends’ single largest investment in visitor infrastructure in Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. A stunning new welcome center sitting atop Lookout Mountain, the building and site were completed and donated to the National Park Service in 2024. This project was undertaken in partnership with Elliotsville Foundation, who retained reserved rights to complete this project after the original land donation to establish the monument. Friends raised nearly $21 million towards the design and construction of Tekαkαpimək as part of the A Monumental Welcome Campaign, with Elliotsville Foundation investing an additional $15 million as lead project partner.
